I have a Uniden Sportcat 180 that I have had for years now. It is in great working condition but needs a new battery pack. Anyone know what this is worth? I want to sell it but if it's not worth much I may just toss it as it's taking up room in my office. Thanks in Advance!

I'm in the same situation. I have an SC200 currently sitting on my desk with a bad BNC connector. I've torn into it enough to realize that replacing the connector isn't going to be just a de-solder and re-solder affair. It served me well for about 10 years, but with more and more users going to trunking and/or digital radio systems, its usefulness is waning. It'd still be good for Aircraft scanning, as well as any areas that still have a lot of analog conventional systems to listen to, but I'm on the fence as to whether it's even worth the $50 that Uniden would charge to repair it.

If the only thing keeping you from using it is the bad battery though, then definitely replace the battery. I've replaced the pack in mine twice since I bought it. I think they cost me between $10 and $15 or so each time.

If you still don't want it, you can always throw it on eBay for $10-20 and see who bites. Or if you want to give it away, I'd sure take it for parts. Might be the thing that finally motivates me to replace the BNC on mine.

The Uniden that have posted is not worth very much because it is analog. It is still good to use for Nascar and Indy Car. Please send me a pm and I will share with you more infomation off line. Thank You.

Come on Tim my location is still very analog for public safety and it is not going anywhere in the near future and alot of places are the same way.i am not going to PM you but why don't you share the information you have with all of us?Might not be in my state the info you have but i do travel from time to time into the Indy Area for the Brickyard 400 only missed 1 and that was the 1st one in 1994.The OP is from denver at just a quick glance denver fire tones out on vhf-hi and their are 3 surrounding counties that still have some very active analog systems and i do get to travel to the denver area from time to time to see family.

mule1075, The rest of the US in some parts have gone DIGITAL and they are not using analog mode at all. If you are in a area where ANALOG is still is use they will be rebanding and that older unit will not work on the NEW re-banded frequencies. Also when the area that is on ANALOG goes digital you will be ready to hear them. I have seen those types of older scanners like that was posted going for $20-$25.00 and less at a Hamfest. If I was going to buy a new scanner I would buy a DIGITAL ready scanner. You can use a DIGITAL scanner in ANALOG mode until they switch over to DIGITAL.Once they are on P-25 DIGITAL you will be able to hear them.Radio that was posted looks nice but this is old school. The scanner will only pick up ANALOG transmissions only.

Thanks for all the info guys. I will keep this until someone offers me $25 for the unit including shipping. I have a pay pal account and would ship out same day. I just need $25 out of it so I can justify buying my Pro-106 to my wife haha.

i think you are confused between rebanding and narrowbanding.Rebanding effects 800mhz trunking systems NOT analog conventional systems.Narrowbanding is what i think is what you meant is that correct?
