When are the next scanners coming out? The Pro96 and 396 have both been out for a while. Have there been any news releases I have missed?

The BCD396T has only been out since August or so of 2005. I wouldn't think Uniden is coming out with anything soon, however, you never know. They did just discontinue the BR330T so maybe they are preparing the factory for something else?

The Pro-96 on the other hand has been out a bit longer. I would love to see GRE coming out with some new radios.

I don't think Radio Shack will be coming out with much of anything new. I see them going out of business in about another year if they don't get their act together.

New stuff

.... I agree about radio shack not staying in biz (it was a wonderful store in the 60's and early 70's)... I have herd that radio shack will have a new digital hand held but it's just a rumor (salespeople types) and it just may be from uniden (more of the same) I've enjoyed the 96 but it pulls my pants down it's so heavy...Bob.

Really? You and GreatLakes need to talk to the folks on Wall St. and tell them why they're wrong. RS stock is higher than it's been for the past two years. Of course, Wall St doesn't give a rat's patoot about scanners, they're focused to stupid low volume things like HDTV converter boxes and cell phones. Obviously scanners would make RS lots more profit.

I remember a thread, the Uniden Base Scanner Wanted: Official Lobby Thread, a few months back discussing what people would like in a base model of a Uniden scanner. Even Upman, our resident Uniden person/employee here at RR, chimed in.

Note: "base" scanner here is different than a mobile scanner. Something like these:

PS. Doesn't that iCOM R-9500, 5 kHz - 3335 MHz, dual DSP, $13,000.00, scanning receiver (the white one) make you drool - just a little? BTW, it decodes APCO P25 with an optional decoder.

Yea, but does it trunk? I'm thinking no.

Doesn't look like it does, but I am sure someone will come up with some software. The PCR series (PCR100, 1000, 1500, 2500) didn't do trunking, either; but software came out that allowed trunking, like TrunkPCR.

A while back (last year, I think), I emailed iCOM asking them about this and they wrote back informing me that there were no current plans to make a scanner/receiver that decoded APCO P25 or did trunk tracking. Since then, they came out with a few models that do APCO P25; who knows, maybe the will still make one that does trunk tracking, too.

I would like Uniden to make a "base" model like this, but with all the cool Uniden stuff included. Not necessarily the price tag, though.

Here are a few more pics:
