• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Either of those cables will work. Aftermarket solved the RIB dilemma with the 3K long ago.

Keep in mind Astro Saber/XTS3000 CPS is pretty particular about where it will run. You need 32-bit Windows (7 works fine). You can make it work with a VM (VMWare Workstation) but will take a little fine tuning.

Both a DB9 or USB cable whereas you do not need the RIB are available. Just make sure you have the appropriate driver installed on the computer for the cable you are using. You will need to use the Astro Saber/XTS3000 CPS on a 32-Bit XP, Vista, and a 32-Bit Windows 7 computer ( good luck in making a Windows 7 computer to work).

You can get good quality after-market programming cables from Bluemax 49ers.

I have had success reading and writing hundreds of XTS3000s (and their cousin the ASTRO Saber) on Windows 10. I did have a hardware serial port and it had to be the 32 bit flavor of Windows 10.

I can edit the codeplugs on any modern Windows 11 64 machine, but it will not communicate with the radio.

You will not be able to read/write the radio on anything but a 32 bit install of windows. As others have said, you may be able to spin up a Windows 32 bit VM, but that depends on your technical prowess.

That cable is confusing. It lists radios have incompatible cables. An XTS3000 cable is not the same as an XTS2500 or 5000 one. They will physically fit, but they are not wired the same.

This is from a reputable vendor who provides support for their products. I have several of their aftermarket cables and recommend them. With a cheapie amazon cable, it can be hit or miss. Best case it doesnt work, worse case it turns your radio into an irrecoverable paperweight.

At this point dude sell or get rid of the XTS 3000 and buy an XTS 2500 or 5000. Either one can be found at the same price range as a XTS 3000 with little of the programming pain and headache. I know nostalgia can make owning a XTS 3K seem like a good idea but the headaches outweigh the benefits these days.

What he said, and to add, at this point, XTS3000s are in hospice and will soon start suffering EEPROM failure. These are close to 3 decades old now. Astro 25 stuff is cheap (and not too far behind in age but way better in technology under the hood and still have a few more years before they are tits up).

Agreed. I've never had an issue with a 32 bit version of Windows 7 or Windows 10. In fact, a Core 2 Duo (repurposed Stargate Console) with Windows 7 Ultimate and a Centrino powered CF-19 with Windows LTSC 2019 32 bit are what I use for the rare times I need to work on Astros, CDMs, MTR2000s, 1225's GM300's, Maxtracs, Radius, and HT1000's because both machines also are capable of booting MS-DOS 7.1 from Windows 9x.
