Beginning with the disappearance of the Martin family last Thursday (March 15), we have heard little chatter from the homicide talk groups in Birmingham. Has anyone had any luck hearing activities relative to this disappearance? The only chatter I heard came on "events 3." I also heard references to new handhelds. Is something changed/amiss/anews with Birmingham?

Can we say encryption? Most detective channels (conventional and trunked) are encrypted. Either that, or, they are using some other form of communications such or NexTel or cell phones, etc...

Since Birmingham went to their digital system, homicide detectives have used a regular talk group. While they want encryption, I haven't seen any indication the city has spent the money necessary. I suppose it's possible they returned to the SouthernLinc radios, some of which are still in use in the city. That would be truly depressing. I should add that "events 3" is talk group 50608.
