I have owned both radios and would give a slight edge to the KA1103, however, if you greatly value portability, then buy KA1102. Buy the Degen version of these radios off eBay to get the latest version.

BTW, soon Degen will release a left handed version of the KA1103.

Much too broad a question. 'Better' at what? More sensitive, better selectivity, better sideband reception - too many possibilities here. 73 Mike

Read this first:

RadioIntel.com - Reviews Degen DE1103

Great write up on the 1103. I'd recommend it. The Degen also has a "line out" that is a must nowadays for decoding those CWs and uploading sound files.

I've had mine for 3 years and I love it, even with the odd volume adjustment issue and the missing band segments (you can add those in manually)

When I began into radios, I used whatever my father decided to put under the Christmas tree. Which in my case was a multi-band from Montgomery Ward. And I got a whole lot of Dx out of that radio.

All radios are good in their own special ways. Its really up to the user.

Ha ha yeah, God bless tight wad dad. But that Montgomery Ward multi-band got me hooked for life. I was 12 and fascinated that I could hear a coast guard station located in Canada, the BBC, AM broadcast stations from far away cities, airplane pilots flying over head and the local fire department. All in one radio. No PLL techno crap, no notch filter - I didn't even know what selectivity was back then. I just got the most out of what I had. In fact I still do.
