Yes, I know these are old 2m rigs but I see no reason to go buy a new one when I have both of these. I have not been on the radio in a long time but when I was I used a Yaezu Vertex hand held.

I now have a console in my Explorer form my EMT equipment (siren and switch box) so I figured I would put a 2M rig in just because I have room now.

Which one is the better of the two?

Yaezu 2400H or the 212RH

Thanks

I don't have a pic of the other one on my tablet.

Either one would work fine.
I've never used a 212, but I did own a 2400 for many years. It was my first mobile.
2400 is a nice radio. Loud audio made it easy to use while mobile. Big clear display worked well, too.
I think the larger controls on the 2400 would lend to better mobile operation, just my opinion, though.

Only issue I ever had with Yeasu was the microphones. I seem to have very bad luck with them. Finally got rid of my 2400 a few years ago due to a bad mic and not being able to find a replacement at a reasonable price.

The FT-2400 has a tiny memory battery on the board and
it may be dead after a long time.
It's not difficult to replace.

To answer your question - the FT-2400 IMHO

the 2400 is a huge improvement in the way Yaesu built radios, it is very similar inside to the Vertex FTL-2011/7011 and has a Mil-Spec 810 C&D rating for shock and vibration. It also has an alphanumeric display *only 4 characters* but still way more than it's competition at the time (1992).

There are issues with backlights going out (any radio 20 years old will have this problem) but they are solid radios. The 212 is from circa 1986 and is a much different animal inside, typical old school Yaesu, and a complete nightmare to work on.

The 2400 could still survive a few more years in a mobile environment. The 212 I would not tap it too hard sitting in the shack.

Thanks for jogging my memory, that reminded me about having to replace a few of the lamps on mine. Little "grain of wheat" lamps, if I recall correctly. Not horribly difficult to replace.

The 2400 was a 1st cousin to the Vertex commercial radio. That being said, I've had to replace the bulbs, & memory battery. I still have 2 UHF 7400's. Not a better radio ever made. Maybe smaller, with more features, but not better.

I had both, the 2400 was a lot better, both in performance and in reliability.
