Narrowed it down to the MP- 08-ant-0865 and the Laird WPD136MC-001 Plan on using either indoors with a mini mag mount. Does anyone use these antenna's? Experiences with them? Thanks.

A radio shop I used to work for switched over from Laird to Em Wave antennas. Laird plastic bases would have a tendency to develop hairline cracks. Em Wave features rubber-coated springs and bases. I will have to look at the package but replaced ALL of my Laird antennas with Em Wave products. You don't have to remove permanently mounted Em Wave antennas at the automatic car wash as you would other “unprotected” antennas.

They are available at the antennafarm.com

Yeah, from what I've seen, getting good reviews.

What lead you to only those two antennas?

The Laird is a beast of an antenna. The lower mount section is the size of a 12oz beer can. On anything but a fire truck, it looks comical. They are not forgiving if you hit a tree branch or low parking garage.

Speaking of comical, the MP is an odd antenna. I've never seen/used one personally.

If you are looking for a good multiband NMO base mobile antenna, the Larsen NMO-150/450/758 would be my choice. In fact, I'm looking at buying a bunch of these for use at work on multiband radios.

I've attached both models of EM Wave antennas I use on my mobile installation. The EM-M11003 is cut for 764-869 MHz.
and I use it for Illinois Starcom21 systems, and it seems to also receive VERY well on UHF and VHF frequencies on my Uniden 536HP.

Then you trim yourself. I had several of them cut for 146 MHz. for use on VHF ham frequencies as a 1/4 wave
and at that length works very well on 446 MHz, which is 3/4 wave for the UHF amateur band. I have several Motorola, Kenwood, and Yaesu radios in my car, and I am very happy with the performance; PLUS, I never have to remove them for the car wash. They are priced at the same approximate cost as the other antennas described by the other folks who are part of this message thread.

I really don't know, Always been partial to Laird and I like the gain. As far as the MP, the gain and the fact that it's multi-polarized. Yes, I have considered the Larsen also.

OK.

The Laird would be my choice of the two. I tend to shy away from the gimmick antennas. If you can handle the size of the Laird, it would probably be a better choice.

The EM Wave stands above the Laird in so much quality of manufacture and performance. As I mentioned earlier, the radio shop I worked for no longer sells Laird; EM Wave is the product line of antennas they endorse.

Check with Rich Carlson of Scanner Master. He just got 3 new EM Wave antennas for his mobile installation. I'm sure he will give the same endorsement of EM Wave antennas.

I have that MP antenna and I really like it. Its pretty broadbanded and I also use it for my VHF/UHF ham work as well. My home antenna is the MP 0891 and it works very well too. I never used the Laird so I cannot compare.
