Greetings. I just purchased and manually programmed my new 1040; I programmed it identical to my Pro 106. For some reason when I am scanning and the whistler stops on a 800 MHz digital p25 phase 1 system, the signal indicator and all 5 bars will disappear after a transmission is over; it almost appears that after a transmission is done in that trunk system the scanner looses the control channel or something. I have a Pro 106 which is the same exact scanner which I have had to reprogram various times but never experienced this phenomenon. Any ideas? My Pro 106 always shows the signal indicator and all 5 bars even after the transmission is over.

My PSR-500 also continues to show the signal indicator and all 5 bars even after the transmission is over. I looked at the settings in WIN500 and PSREdit500 (which also can be used to program the WS1040) and I do not see any settings that control that line of the display. Perhaps you should do a firmware reinstall and see if that corrects it.

Thanks, but did not help. Let me try to elaborate. I have both my pro 106 and whistler 1040 side by side, both are programmed exactly. When they are scanning and stop on a TGID on a p25 trunk system (Milwaukee Co. OASIS) the scanner stops and monitors that TGID, when the conversation is over on that TGID the scanner will wait 7 seconds for activity before it scans to the next channel or bank ( I have both scanners set for a 7 second delay time for this trunk system. During the time of inactivity the ;pro 106 will continue to show the signal meter with all 5 bars from the control channel. However the whistler does not, the signal indicator goes away and so does the bars acting if there was no more control channel. Like I said, I manually programed these two radios identical but getting different results on the same trunking system for Milwaukee Co. HELP111

If you have a TRS stereo jumper cable with mini (1/8") plugs on both ends, you can clone the programming from your 106 into the 1040. Plug the cable into the PC/IF jacks on both scanners. On the 106, press PGM and GLOB (F3). Scroll to Clone Send and press SEL.

Sounds like a textbook example of simulcast distortion to me. And being that both sites on the system contain simulcast cells, that further backs up my assumption. Best option would be to sell the 1040 to help fund a Uniden SDS100 or 200. The difference will be night and day, that I can tell you!

There was a thread on here years ago that said that the GRE built ones made in China did better on similcast than the Whistler built ones in the Philippines.

Sorry, last message got cut short. Here it is. One last thing. This issue only occurs when radio is in scan mode. When the scanner is on a trunking system manually or a TGID has been paused, this does not occur; the whistler will keep the signal indicator with the bars , but when in scan mode it seems that it can't maintain the control channel

Thanks again for any assistance

Is the system type programmed as P25 Auto? Do you have the correct control channel and alternate frequencies programmed? Do you have the control channels for both counties on the OASIS system programmed as a single system or 2 separate systems. If both counties are in a single system, Multi-Site must be set to Stationary. If programmed as 2 separate systems, Multi-Site should be set to Off for both systems.

Greetings everyone. I took some time to consider everyone's input. I've determined that even though it is supposed to be the same as the pro106, it is slightly inferior when it comes to handling simulcast trunking systems. It did the same thing on another simulcast trunking system {Washington Co). However the phenomenon does not happen one a single site trunking system such as the statewide system WISCOM. It is still a great radio for the price but as a previous post stated the the PRO and the Whistler are manufactured in two separate countries making one slightly better than the other.
Thanks everyone!
