The keypad is an addition to a sub din-sized radio that was initially released with fewer buttons on the faceplate. I speculate that this iteration of the product was rushed to market to capture user demand (including myself) that was frequently expressed on these forums. The buttons (and their labeling) are small; there simply isn't a lot of room for them. Yes, the backlighting is uneven, and yes, polarized sunglasses render the display unreadable, even though other scanners seem to do better. (Hint: leave the protective film in place to scatter the polarized light.) Yes, I have a list of other things I would want to see changed.
But I still applaud Whistler for bringing the first integrated, detachable faceplate scanner to market and appearing to be responsive to the end users' needs. I look forward to refinements on their future products.
