I recently sent in a ws 1065 scanner to Whistler group for repairs, I was told it couldn't be fixed.
So they sent me a replacement unit, brand new is what I was told, So when I received the replacement unit I hooked it up and it scanned and received audio for 2 r 3 minutes then nothing, it continues to scan stops on frequency but no audio anyone have any ideas thanks

You may be suffering from LSM (linear simulcast modulation). The sites are using CQPSK. What programming software are you using?

No, based on being in Gaylord, they don't have simulcast. Actually middle of the lower peninsula and north, there is no simulcast.

Make sure if you have pushed the antenna in and give it a twist to lock in, otherwise the antenna is not connected to the radio. I've seen a few scanners like this!

Be sure to have at least these frequencies in for the three towers. These are the control frequencies and all you need plus the talkgroups of course. You 'may not' have all the towers programmed in so you may not be getting the best tower reception? Since they are separate, you'll want to try and scan each tower on each pass, set the system for STAT and the option to scan all that can be received.

Are these conventional frequencies or the MPSCS trunked system?

Try the earphone jack and see if that works, tune to an analog conventional frequency without any subtones and set squelch to 0 to get some noise to test with. If that works then move the earphones to the speaker jack and test. Maybe the internal speaker has failed or it was a return and not a brand new scanner.

As Ubbe suggested, did you try an earpiece or headphones? You could have a dirty headphone jack or bad speaker. Are you using programming software? The NOAA weather frequencies are good for an audio check.

Have a WS1065 sounds fine, uploads-downloads, however the display lights but nothing on it. Thought it might have been contrast but adjusted it through the software and it made no difference. Anyone else had this issue? Thanks for your time... C

Open the scanner and you'll see a flat ribbon cable between the circuit board and the display. VERY carefully work the cable out of the slot in the connector and try gently cleaning it with circuit cleaner spray or alcohol on a Q-Tip. Then using even greater care, reinsert the cable as far as it will go, being careful not to bend or crush it.

:) If that doesn't work, remove the cleaned ribbon cable and very carefully trim about 2mm or less off the end of the ribbon with a pair of scissors. This might correct a punched out part of the ribbon cable with a new section of cable contacts. I would not trim too much off, just enough to contact new 'unpunched' cable contacts. Careful! :)

I hesitated to mention that as one person used dull scissors and ruined their cable and was upset with me.

I've also buffed the contacts on the cable with an eraser which can help too. But again you have to be gentle and very careful.

:) I know what you mean, if tools are not serviceable you can strip screws as well, so of course a sharp serviceable pair of scissors is a must (with a steady hand as well). Sounds like that 'one person' should have known better than that... Careful! :)
