What sort of other-type cords are you asking about? If you're thinking cigarette lighter plug you can get those at any auto parts, Walmart, etc for a couple of bucks and easily attach them to the OEM power cord. That said, I would not use one on a scanner like that, they have a poor reputation for reliability.

You want a constant power source that is not affected by turning your vehicle ignition on and off, switching the ignition on and off with the radio on, will corrupt the SD card in the radio, if it is connected to an ignition controlled power source.
