I just read a 22-page detailed report/review of the Whistler TRX-1 and TRX-2 scanners on the Scanner Master website. The report/review was authored by Richard Carlson and is copyrighted 2016 by Scanner Master. On page 1 of the 22-page pdf version of the report/review it states the following:

"Once remaining stocks of the “WS” series scanners are sold they will likely no longer be available except on the secondary market."

Based on that quote it appears that only the TRX-1 and TRX-2 will remain after all of the remaining WS series scanners have been sold. The entire 22-page report can be read/downloaded here in pdf format: https://www.scannermaster.com/v/vspfiles/files/pdf/TRX Review.pdf

WS going away - yes

This is not new. This link to the old WS1080 shows it's been discontinued. It's been up on Universal radio for a pretty long while now. Clicking on the Universal radio 1088 scanner it shows "Previous models" PSR800/WS1080 those are done.

Whistler would logically have only one "top shelf" series, and the TRX series has filled that niche. Along with the WS-1010 & -1025 entry-level models and the WS-1040 & -1065 mid-level models, this constitutes a complete lineup. Keeping the 1080/1095 and the 1088/1098 in production alongside of the TRX-1 & -2 wouldn't seem to make a great deal of sense, from a business standpoint. They appear to be simply keeping things streamlined so that they can compete effectively. Just my 2c.

Makes sense. Here in Aus Uniden have just stopped selling the UBCD396XT as we now have two newer handheld models.

It seems I was a little presumptuous on the report. I had assumed that Whistler would discontinue older versions of the scanners when the TRX series was introduced but they still sell the WS-1010, WS-1025, WS-1040, WS-1065, WS-1088 and WS-1098. The WS-1080 and WS-1095 have been discontinued.

Since I work on the Sales and Support end of the business I don't have access to some of the inside business functions.

WS Series phased out

? Whistler doesn't do the Library updates. That's from Radio Reference. Also, My WS1080 just got a free DMR firmware update from Whistler. I don't think you have to worry

Whistler WS phase out?

Yeah. So far Whistler has been supporting my year old WS1080 pretty well. If only EZScan didn't freeze up so much itself.

The WS1080/1095 are still supported with updates, etc. However, they are discontinued from a sales perspective as the 1088/1098 have taken their place with the addition of the full keyboard.

As has been stated many times in this forum... Whistler does provide the library file updates. There's a process that runs every week that downloads the information and puts it in the library file format that the PC Application and the scanners understand.
