• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You're taking a test and asking the Internet for answers to it? Great...

My experience are that vibrate are not silent, it rattles loudly but you will feel it in a noisy environment. If the user goes from his noisy environment into a more silent room, maybe for a coffey break, the vibrator will be heard by people sitting next to him, like it works with many mobile phones. The LED alert are totally silent but then you will need to have your eyes glued to the display, not very practical if your are supposed to do any sort of work while waiting for a call.

In some cases the radio has profiles, then you push a button to switch from a profile used for a high noise environment, where you automatically shouts into the mic, to another for a quiet office room type where both alerts and mic and speaker levels gets set to different levels.

If it is a test then they probably are not so detailed but a LED indicator are always a totally silent alert.

What's sad is this is probably someone's training at a radio service shop. Imagine if Delta Airlines pilots were asking "pardon me, is anyone on board who happens to know how to fly a plane
Nobody here was born God's gift to radio, although some on here act like it. Why make fun of someone not knowing something and asking a question?

OP is taking a knowledge test to see how much they know. It's not a test to see if they can go online and find the answer. Or, they are writing the test and have no business doing it.

Nothing wrong in quickly finding info using Google, that today are in most mobile phones so always available to you. A guy that quickly within seconds can find solutions from a knowledge base of thousands of expert will be like the expertise from thousand guys combined into one. Compare that to one guy that struggles with internet searches and instead tries to remember info he heard 20 years ago and some he never even get told.

School kids today are thought how to use all resources available to quickly find and selectively sort out false info from true info, instead of trying to remember what year Columbus first met the native American indians.

Those are perfectly fine methods, and I use them every day. However, when sitting for a test, that option is no longer available. A single person has to be able to function somewhat independently of the Internet at-large, otherwise, what value are they bringing to the table?

Once, I worked with someone who went through the Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) for Windows 2000 bootcamp. They passed with flying colors, but failed at some of the basic tasks, such as configuring a hidden file share.

While the OP may pass the test this way, they aren't doing themselves or anyone else any favors.

Anyone can memorize answers and pass a test. Qualified persons with skill and experience are the ones who are kept onboard organizations because others know they know their stuff.

It was once said that this industry is full of posers. But when the rubber meets the road, it's quickly revealed who doesn't know **it, and who actually knows their **it.
