................................in FM no less.

Not a bad thing. I can just hear 50k watts 1080 AM on 161.7600FM crystal clear.

I kind of like it because if it is a slow night for the PD/FD, I can hear Coast to Coast AM.

Is it some sort of feed to a secondary transmitter or something? I'm in Manchester, and the 1080 main transmitter is in Farmington I believe on one of the mountains, so it is LOS. I am right between the WTIC transmitter and Box Mountain in Bolton, which has a bunch of Marcus stuff on it leased out to everyone. Maybe a directional link to one of the cable companies? What am I hearing? Sounds better on my scanner than on my Boston Acoustics Receptor:roll:

While I'm at it.... Does anyone know why the entire spectrum from between 1310 and 1400 is totally overpowered by a astoundingly clear spanish language radio station? I try to hear Savage on 1360AM, but between 7:30-8pm the entire range gets totally oblitterated by a station that overpowers everything 50-60 hops in either direction! No call letters ever, just constant music. I know there cant be a 50k watt pirate operating without the FCC knowing, so it must be a legit station. But it has to be broadcasting from practically on top of me! There is a small AM transmitter off of Love Lane by the dump, but I thought that was on 1530AM or something playing Al Sharpton during the day. I am fairly high-up and in the center of town. Yo no tengo indicio:confused:

Either a studio uplink, or a remote pickup - for instance, the studio could be sending audio out into the field for a remote reporter, so that when the remote reporter is ready to go live he knows what is being played back in the studio and will be prepared when its his turn.

Lots of places in CT have licenses on 161.76 - http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/results.jsp

Thats a good thought. But it has been active for over 8 months now without more than a few individual nights of interruption.

Oooh, here is a good clue. Nights when there is an interruption and no live feed of the radio show, you do get the news and weather reports, but open air when the show would be on.
