I believe the BCD436HP was released as a new scanner in 2014...
That could also be the reason it has that date...
2014 vintage...

That's called the copyright date of the image loaded at the assembly line. That has nothing to do with the build date.

The serial number on the sticker (and on box) tells you when it was manufactured.

As it says on the opening screen, 2014 is the copyright date. To determine the actual manufacturing year of your scanner, check this link in the Wiki:

As jtwalker mentioned above, between actual manufacture, shipping in large lots by ocean from Vietnam to distributor, shipping from distributors to retailers, how long it sat in inventory before you ordered it etc., a fair amount of time can pass by the time it gets into your hands.

Regardless of what year the RR database & firmware date back to out of the box they can both be updated with ease in minutes using Sentinel. The opening message can also be changed via Sentinel by choosing EDIT > EDIT PROFILE then selecting the Display Options tab. You'll see the "Opening Message" text boxes towards the bottom left. Be sure to write the change to the scanner

The serial number wiki offers a comprehensive explanation on how it all works. Take my 436HP for example:
376 = model number which all 436HP serial numbers start with
C = late production run (after 2020)
1 = Year of manufacture, in this case 2021
8 = factory code. Mine is Vietman
The rest of the characters represent order of manufacture from that run

Because that’s the image they still use to build scanners with? Brand new is probably built at least a year ago, btw.
Don't you think that image should be updated and the database on the SD card updated
HRO =469.95, HRO now 500 Amazon 539.95 Walmart 539.99 ZIP 549.99 Scanner master 549.99 Out of stock
Seems like paying full price for a 10 year old car that's Never been sold or used
I don't believe these are brand new manufacture radios NEW / Old Stock

Mail it to me along with a check for $150 and I’ll update both database and firmware and then return to you.

No… I do t think Uniden manufacturing wants to bother with updating their process every week, or even once a quarter. Three firmware revisions for SDS units came out between mid-December and late January. It takes literally 5 minutes for a purchaser to update both and I would do it automatically anyway even if it didn’t look to require it.

Using that logic, considering this scanner was released in 2014, why would anyone pay $469.95 for a scanner with technology that old.
