A friend ask me to find him a handheld scanner that would pickup 319.4326mhz its some
(nascar) freq at the local race track. I tried programing it into a couple of pro handhelds
like pro 51 & pro 62 ( they cover to 1ghz), but they would not cover this freq, however the
pro2006 base scanner would accept this freq, so whats so special about this 319 mhz that
most newer scanners will not cover it?

Nothing special. 225-400 MHz is the Military Aircraft Band. Some scanners cover it (mostly the more expensive ones), many do not.

It costs money to add a band into a scanner's design, so the 'less needed' bands tend to be left out of less expensive scanners.

I would tend to doubt NASCAR use of that frequency for voice. Just barely possibly, might be some telemetry there. NASCAR is almost entirely in the 451-470 and 800 MHz bands, at least for driver to pit comms.

I don't know of any scanner that picks up 319.4326 mHz (0.3194326 Hz). <grin>

319.4326 MHz is in an ISM band around 320 MHz. A lot of garage door openers and other low power unlicensed stuff operates in this range. A lot of automotive keyless entry systems (key FOB remote) also operate there.

If it's something at the local race track, it's probably telemetry of some sort. Maybe a garage door opener, doorbell, alarm system, etc. Some alarm system sensors for windows and doors are battery powered and wireless. Also battery-powered wireless motion detectors.

Hello All!
If you use a 7.5 KHZ. tunning step, like I did on my BC-785D,you can get as close as 319.4325 MHZ. Again,Im not disputing that there is probably nothing useful or worth while listening to up there but it IS tuneable from a scanner standpoint.

Just my $.02 worth!
