Back when Whistler first introduced the WS1098 mobile scanner I purchased three of them, one for me, and two more for friends or mine. Eventually I sold mine and regretted it. My two friends still have theirs and said they still work perfectly. Why was this particular model discontinued? All the used ones I've seen were priced more than the TRX-2. What are your thoughts?

My guess is that the TRX-2 (with NXDN) and a faster CPU replaced it.

For those interested I recently purchased a new WS1098 directly from Whistler. It was on "clearance" for $380.00 plus shipping. (Supply was limited, but they may still have more?) For me, it was a great deal as I have no need for NXDN .

I just ordered 3 refurbs direct from Whistler for $275 each. The last refurb they sent me was in original box and looked brand new.

I have had a scratch & dent 1098 for a couple of years now...I could never find a mark on it anywhere, nor was the packaging beat up in any way. Not sure what made it S&D but it was my good fortune to get it at the discount. Great scanner.

My WS 1095 still works great. I'm listening to it now as I write this; it is keeping up perfectly with the Uniden BCD996P2 on my desk. I had to replace the memory card that came with it, but other than that, no problems. Just keep in mind that I do NOT live in an area with Simulcast, otherwise I know that I would have a very different level of performance from it.

I just received my 3 refurb WS1098's direct from Whistler (good luck finding them anywhere else), all in like new condition, with screen protector still on the control head. They were all on F2.1 firmware, and all of them turned on with "Waiting for main unit", requiring locating a LAN cable to repair them, but all seem to be working at 110% :)

At my stationary home location, the WS1098 outperforms my new SDS200 on a semi-distant system, getting 100% CC lock and decode where the SDS200 cannot lock CC at all, even at -55dBm.
