Ok so I have the latest version of Sentinal and have put in the latest firmware I beleive 2.01 into my SDS100. So now we have the wide option for filters, so what does that do as far as how the scanner receives?

I’m a little confused here, are these filters in place to help with the type of systems your monitoring such as P25 phase1, phase 2, or more so for the frequency range that your system is using?

It remains a mystery, as it hasn't been fully explained by Uniden, they just briefly touch on it. Just like the "Slope" and such with Whistler.

Yes, I was told that is may help with the audio muting issue I am seeing on a Motorola Type II Smartnet analog system, but unfortunately I have seen no improvement using any of the Wide filter settings... I have no clue as to what they do, but then again, I am not really clear on what the initial filters did either. Have not gotten that far in my scanner education process for this new-again user.

Here’s a thought for Uniden to do. Since they put out these firmware updates which is a good thing, but maybe they should update there on-line user guide. And explain in more detail what these various settings do. I think that would clear up a lot of the mystery.

Found a video explaining what the filtering does. Just substitute "filter" for "bitcoin."

HEHEHEHEHE You got that right!!! Perfect video showing how I understand filters...!!! Thanks for sharing...!! Gave me a good gut chuckle, and I definitely needed it given my other SDS100 woes...

If you have a very weak signal the wide normal will receive it better. Makes 100-500 mhz receive better, IMHO.

Well, that doesn't do much good using it mobile, now does it?

If you are listening to an FM broadcast station, ie; music, a wide filter will typically make if sound better. If you're trying to pull out a weak signal with a lot of interference, a narrow filter will help to make easier to understand.

I love the block feature on Radio Reference. And the new filter setting.

Hi!
When receiving in conditions of strong interference it is necessary to include a wide filter. At the same time, such strange behavior sometimes occurs, the signal is first eaten and then disappears.
Вот как это выглядит:

As you can see, 436HP has no such problems.

How everything was connected:

Unfortunately the filters do nothing for me. I live right outside NYC and the UHF band is packed with NYPD and FDNY in the 470-480 MHz range. Even with the wide filter turned on these frequencies bleed into each other and even bleed down to other frequencies in the 460Mhz range.

Have you tried turning on the attenuator for any of these channels? It may be too much attenuation, but you don't know until you try. I agree with others that have asked that Uniden include a second option for attenuation that is half the current setting. Seems like that would be just about right for a number of conventional channels where I Iive.

Try the filters with the IFX enabled on each channel. I know it sounds like a pain but it might fix the issue. I had to do it because I was getting bleed over in the 450-462 range doing the above cleared up 95% of the problem.

Thanks I did try that but it did not make any noticeable difference.

I can confirm using Wide Normal enhances P25 reception by a good margin. All filters except for wide normal were RSSI range of 85-115. With Wide Normal RSSI ranges from 65-90

Alas, the filters in the SDS100 do not always work.
Sometimes they behave strangely, as in the video above.
I wonder what Upmen will say.
