All of a sudden my BCD536HP doesn't want to connect to my wifi network. It's been working fine for a long time, but all of a sudden today, I try connecting, and get "Connecting error." No parameters have changed on my wifi network such as the password or anything.

Has my wifi dongle failed?

Did you try resetting to factory and trying to connect?

Got me only thing else I can think to try is unplug the dongle and shut down the radio for a few minutes. And then try the previous steps other than that is all I can think of.

I had tried those steps before as well... Now I just went and re-enabled WPA2 security on my router, tried connecting again and it worked! We'll see if it lasts...

My dongle needs to be removed and inserted again to the 536 when "no connection" happens. The same has to be done when the mobile app doesn't connect but the 536 show that the ip is still the same and it has a connection. Must be a TCP or UDP port that dies and cannot be revived and needs a new port number.

The connection failed again sometime during the day today...

I'd tried removing the dongle, powering down, etc before trying the steps that I did last night. Going to mess around with it again tonight when I get home.

My router is an Asus RT-AC3100. I'm not having any luck getting the scanner to reconnect tonight at all no matter what I try.

Have you tried changing the IP address, and then configuring the new IP as a static address in your router? Have you added/deleted anything from your home network recently?

You have to reserve an IP address for the scanner in your router, or the connection will be interrupted every time the IP address lease expires (usually every 24 hours).

Normally, internal IPs rarely change unless the device is offline for a period of time. Why does Uniden do that I wonder?

The connection gets interrupted, regardless of whether the IP address actually changes, if the IP address is not reserved.

That makes no sense. You're saying without a reservation and if the IP stays the same, the connection is interrupted.

How does making a DHCP reservation change that? If so, this is a unique Uniden thing.

Thanks for the tip. I just set it as a reserved DHCP address, different from that address than it had been, and it immediately started working. Hope this lasts!

That makes even less sense, because you forced it to change the IP.

I hope that works for you, because, from a technical standpoint, it has me baffled.

Something in the DHCP lease renegotiation process borks the connection. Setting a reserved IP eliminates the daily lease renegotiation, and guarantees a consistent IP address (mandatory if you want to use logging or remote access without daily reconnect/reboot).
