The radioshop guys at the city have agreed to put a BNC connector on a 'no longer used' antenna that orignally connected to a mobile unit on our desk at work.
(I work in a dungeon)
The mobile unit was a backup radio if our consoles ever failed, and the frequencies ranged from 460.175-460.475 (if i remember correctly)
So, my question is..... will it hurt the Pro96 if I connect this antenna to it????

Thanks,
Dave

No it will not hurt your scanner unless it is struck by lightning LOL

It probably won't hurt anything, but you really didn't say what type of antenna it is. Are you talking about an outside mounted (like on a pole or tower) base type antenna, or just a simple whip antenna that attaches directly to the radio without any cable?

Yeah, it won't hurt it at all unless it does get struck. Most of the time, a direct hit isn't all it takes to damage radio equipment. A big heavy static discharge will also pop your scanner good!

Always unplug from wall outlets, and outdoor antenna during a storm. The rubber duck might not recieve to your liking down in your "dungeon", but atleast the duck will keep your scanner alive!

Thanks, you all assumed correctly, it is an outside mounted antenna. Actually, the 800mhz does well at receiving down there, its the old analogs I cant hear.

Question....

You didn't say, so I'll ask....There aren't ANY other TRANSMIT antennas in very close proximity to the antenna you are going to hook to the scanner are there?

I wouldn't want to put my scanner on an antenna they was "right beside" some high powered base station transmitting right into the front end of my scanner RX.....

Just a thought....
