Will the VX-3200 VHF go in the 2 meter HAM band?

I'm a Vertex Standard dealer, I have called Vertex as well as my distributor and looked online for information. So far, I haven't found any older software that will allow me to put a frequency below 148MHz in the 3200.

I have found some sites that say that the radio is capable of doing 144-148 but they say you have to use an older version of the software. When I looked on VOL they only offer one software (the same as I already have), I called Vertex and they are only telling me of the one software that's online.

Does anyone on here know where I can download another copy of the software that WILL allow the radio to go into the amateur radio band?

I only know of the ver 4.5 that I have had for some time.

You say you are a dealer and if you can not get the information from Vertex, then unless you or some one else screws up a radio trying this, then I donot think it can be done.

I usually get great support when I call the tech support line - the guy I spoke with didn't sound to enthused to help me... He actually sounded like I woke him up when I called!

I'm also a Motorola accessory dealer and have signed my licensing contracts so I can purchase Motorola software from Motorola on line.... I've ran across radios that the software was obsolete but when I called them they would send me the old software (that wasn't listed on their MOL site). I was expecting Vertex to be able to do the same for me but to my surprise they just said the only programming was what was offered on VOL.

Until early last year you could program radios in narrow or wide band - but after the first quarter I started seeing them update the software they offer and now any software for US radios will only program in narrow band mode. (unless you find some that is marked export only). I figure they "discontinued" the software I'm needing because of it not limiting you to narrow only and that is probably the reason they don't want to allow me to get it from them.

CE-52 (ver 4.85) Manufacture Mode?

Some Vertex Standard software can be run in 'Manufacture Mode' which usually allows the band limit restrictions to be bypassed. You can try a couple of quick checks to see if CE-52 works this way.

Right-click the CE-52 icon on your desktop, click on the Target field, and add a command line switch after the target (be sure to leave a space between the ending quote sign (") and the switch). Here are two typical switches used on other Vertex Standard software:

If either one works, you should see a password box after you double-click the icon to start running the software. The password is usually 'ansho-bango' without quotes. Another password used on some of their newer software is 'Developer Only'. If successful, you should see 'Manufacture Mode' or '(M)' written in the title bar.

If the command line switch doesn't work, CE-52 should start normally. If it doesn't, just erase the switch from the Target field.

I found a website (MaxKelley.com) that discusses the command line switches used on CE-39 and CE-115 if you want to read some general information about how they work.

I downloaded a CE52E version that I found somewhere on the internet (don't remember where) and it works just fine programming the 2 meter ham frequencies in the vertex 3200.

If you need to program a frequency as wide band (amatuer, wx channels, etc.), just set the date on your computer to sometime last year and it won't nag you or force you to change. I do this all the time with CE115 for my VX-459s on amateur frequencies. Maybe it will help with the frequency issue, too.
Just remember to change the date on your computer BEFORE downloading from your radio to the computer or it will still nag you AND change everything to narrow band. If you work with that file and upload back to the radio, it will change everything to narrow.
