I was helping a customer and walking thru getting Sentinel to work with his Windows 10 computer. His computer worked fine with Windows 7 but it would not see the SD Card in Windows 10.

On my Windows 10 machine I had used Sentinel in the past in Windows 10 and it worked fine, but I am guessing recent updates may have killed this. I could not get Sentinel to see the SD Card at all, and it would not show up as a drive in Windows Explorer. I tried 4 different USB cables. Each of these cables worked fine in my Windows 7 machine.

I took the SD Card out of the HP1 and inserted it in the card reader on my computer and it worked just fine. So, for whatever reason, it seems it just won't work when the card is in the radio.

Has anyone else seen this behavior where the SD Card won't be seen by Windows 10 when in the radio? Anyone have a solution to get around this?

Thanks!

No you do NOT need a driver - except for the serial divers. It should see it as a mass storage device.

What I have seen happen on 1 of 3 of my HP is it tries to use the Uniden driver (326 - 996) for some reason - delete the driver and it's fine. I've seen other users on here have the same issue. 1 of the 3 did it for several weeks, I'd write to 2 of them, then try that one and no go, delete the driver and fine, next week - same thing. Finally it just started acting "normal".

Same PC writes to all 3 HP1 and HP2 as well as 996P2 and 325p2. Win10 also.

OK, Now I get it, Thanks!

I didn't see that even though I was in Mass Storage Mode that there was a Comm Port assigned as well. I delete that and reinserted the USB cable and it worked.

Thanks again Mark!

The Mass Storage mode DOES use drivers. The difference is that they should be part of Windows and don't need to be installed manually.

Many times, people will install the Serial Driver in the Mass Storage mode and will override the correct driver for Mass Storage.

The fix is to find the active driver when the scanner is connected (look in Device Manager) and delete it. Then Windows will re-install the correct driver.

Same problem here.
How do I delete that specific driver? Please keep it simple... I'm OLD.

With the scanner connected and in mass storage mode.

Not the best at explaining ... but right click on the Window icon - bottom left, click device manager, Look for Uniden in the list. ID there is a Uniden driver and in Mass storage - that is the error. Click and open and there is an uninstall or remove option. Do it, close it, unplug the scanner and then plug back in.

Hopefully I did not miss a step - without one plugged in to see - might have missed something.

Plug in the USB Cable to the radio,
Turn on the radio
Go into Mass Storage Mode.
Go into Device Manager in Windows, look under "Ports: Comm & LPT" and delete the Uniden Serial Port.
Unplug the radio and then plug the radio back into the computer
(ignore the message from Windows about reformatting the card)
Open Sentinel and you should see your radio.

See why I hate this stuff???

Scanner in "USB Mass Storage"
Screen says "USB Mass Storage"
Scanner turned ON
USB attached to computer and scanner
Clicked on "Device Manager" (Windows 10)
Don't see anything for Uniden anywhere!
I even opened each folder listed... no Uniden anywhere.
GRRRRRRRR.

Curious additional. When I plug the cable into a USB port, there is no recognition by the computer in the lower right corner. I think the USB symbol shoukd appear and it needs to be clicked on to safely remove the USB device. Possible clue???

FOUND IT! It's the #÷×#/%;_/ USB cable. I tried another cable and was able to delete the driver(s) for Uniden, unplug the scanner, replug and it's now recognized. THANK YOU for your help.
