Windows 10, error 5 access denied ??
I tried to clone a pi-star boot image from my zumspot elite 3.5 & got this error when trying to write to the new sd card.
it seems ALL my windows folders & drives somehow got set to read only. I am running in administrator mode.
and I've tried all the suggestions I've found on google. any ideas ??

Have you tried etched? is your image an actual boot image. If so you load boot image as source file in etched and then it will flash to new sd card. Permissions will not be issues then. Hope this is a fix for you.

Almost sounds like you tried to write that image to your hard drive partition somehow and borked the permissions on it or something. No telling what long term reprocussions that'll have outside of needing to reinstall Windows or jumping through bunches of hoops resetting permissions and registry stuff, assuming that imaging software did what I think it might have done.

Update: Just googled it, software might potentially be malware, or at the very least, causes issues with peoples computers. User reviews aren't too kind.

Not malware, and I've used it dozens of times without any problems. A lot of those reviews are just bogus (things like, "doesn't work on Windows 10"). BUT, you COULD potentially wipe out a hard drive if you pick the wrong drive letter when doing a write. It even warns you about that.

In that case, probably just reviews from users who had no idea what they were doing then. Still wondering if the OP accidentally chose the wrong drive letter or something and did some damage.

NOTEIf using Raspberry Pi Imager on Windows 10 with controlled folder access enabled, you will need to explicitly allow Raspberry Pi Imager permission to write the SD card. If this is not done, the imaging process will fail with a "failed to write" error.

yep, I get this error. how do I do this?

I created a new rpi boot card for my new zumspot elite & put the one that came in it away for safe keeping. (y)
It was actually quite simple once I got familiar with the right tools & processes.
thank you a whole bunch to everyone who put up with my newbe questions & steered me to the correct information.

Thank you that's exactly what I did. Win32 disc imager is what was giving me the error. Etcher worked perfect.
