Windows Millennium Edition, or Windows ME, is a graphical operating system developed by Microsoft as part of its Windows 9x family of operating systems.

It is the successor to Windows 98, and was released to manufacturing on June 19, 2000, with general availability on September 14, 2000

I wouldn't.

I don't recall [that windows ME machine that we used to keep in the bay for legacy hardware] it as having USB 2.0 compatible ports or very good compatibility. IIRC, it had 1.1 which was unbelievably slow at what we used it for and would be agonizing to try to handle SDR data over.

You might be able to run a pared down linux distro on it with terminal based streaming software running, but wouldn't hold my breath on any kind of hardware-period-appropriate GUI software handling modern SDR suites.

I ponder the possibility of a Windows ME machine being able to run sound card based SDR's. They are lower in bandwidth and lighter on CPU. They mainly operate HF like the Soft Rock SDR

Rocky 3.7 was the last version to be able to run the Softrock on Windows ME. No waterfall you get a green spectrum. Needs a 1ghz cpu with 256mb RAM.

SDR# won't run. requires .Net 3.5 and for newer .Net 4.5

you never really ran win ME anyway, you always kind of walked it.
I bought a new Dell PC in late 2000 that came with ME. It blue screen crashed within 10 minutes of turning it on and continued to crash several times a day for about 6 months when I installed Windows 2000 on it. After that it did not crash once in the 10+ years of daily use I put it through. I have used every version of Windows since 3.0, both at home and at work. ME was by far the worst user experience I had with Windows.

I usually avoid buying a new model of a product when it first comes out. That includes vehicles, appliances and even software, particularly Microsoft software. Way back when, I bought a computer with Windows ME loaded on it. Did it run? Well, yes, but not really. When Microsoft introduced 98, I jumped on the first day it was released and never looked back.
