Does anyone know how to setup a windows media feed with text tags? Phil from w3lie.net used to have one on his site and it was really cool. It was the only one I've ever seen. I'm waiting for a bcd396t in the mail and I'd like to set it up that way. I don't really care for the winamp version for a couple of reasons. 1st it's pretty laggy on my computer. 2nd most people with windows machines already have windows mrdia player installed.

I was under the impression Windows Media Player didn't have this capability. I thought only Itunes and Winamp did. Or are you talking about the server side of the feed (Windows Media Encoder)?

From what I understand it isn't capable of doing that, but if you use Gordon's talkgroup monitor software you can send talkgroup information through your feed if the listener is using WINAMP. This is what I have running on my feed. So you always know who you're listening to.

I didn't think it was capable either but when the scanner locked on a channel, the freq. popped up in the video window. I believe it was supplied by BNN. I don't know why it's not there anymore but like I said, it was pretty cool. Phil is a member here suppling a couple of feeds for Nassau County, New York. He has several feeds on his own site at: w2lie.net Maybe if he sees this, he can elaborate. more.

If you are using Windows Media Encoder you can stream both audio and video. If you have a window on your desktop displaying the text tags you can grab that area of the screen and include it in your feed. Then you can open the feed in Media Player and see the graphical information along with hearing the audio.

I did it that way for a long time until recently when I switched to Proscan.

Hey Scott. Thank you so much for your reply. I never thought it would be that easy. Could you please tell me what programs you used to stream your feed. The scanner software and the video capture software. I was thinking about using proscan for the scanner interface and debut from NCH software for the video capture. I've see some people that put a video cam facing their scanner but I didn't want to go that route. Thanks again Scott. You were a big help.God Bless,
Eddie

Are you sending your feed to another distribution point, i.e. RadioReference? If so I don't know how to send text tags in a fashion that you could see them in Media Player.

Before I sent my feed to ScanAmerica and RR I was using Media Encoder. If you go into Media Encoder you will see the options for sending audio and video. For the video side I was just capturing the screen where the scanner display was located. I could then pull up the stream in Media Player and see the scanner display along with hearing the audio.

Now, since I'm sending the feed to RR I'm using Proscan. The advantage I see with using Proscan is it will send the feed to the RR icecast server and I can also remotely control the radio if I want to. These days there are lot's of ways to do this, it just takes some experimenting to see what you like best.

Hey Scott. I know how to stream the audio and video to windows media player. I have windows media encoder and I use a service called primcast.
I want to put the player with the text tags on my site at hose1.com. My problem is I don't know what type of capture software to use to capture my desktop or the scanner interface in proscan. I looked into NCH software and found a program called Debut. It will capture the scanner interface but not broadcast it. Then I looked at Broadcam from NCH. It will broadcast but only from a camera, not the desktop or the interface. What kind of capturing software did you use to capture the text tags. Thanks for replying again, Eddie

Maybe I'm missing something in what you are asking. As I understand, you want to capture the desktop scanner interface (video) along with the audio. In Media Encoder you can use the "screen capture" option under video. You can then either pick an area of your screen or you can select a particular window on the screen to capture and stream video. Some windows won't capture and you have to use the option to capture an area of the desktop screen. It takes some playing with to get it working properly but it does work just fine. I haven't used it in awhile and actually don't even have it installed at the moment otherwise I'd try to get you some screen shots of what it looks like.

Are you asking how to "imbed" a player on your web site that will show the LCD screen/Text Tags when your scanner stops on a frequency.......or giving listeners the ability to see text tags on their own Windows Media Player?

If you are looking to have listeners see text tags via their own Windows Media Player, then Scott is correct that you would have to configure Windows Media "Encoder" to broadcast a screen capture of your BCD396T screen that is being played thru a software program on your PC (i.e. Proscan for example). Like Scott, I used to do that but it was a pain to configure and was less than reliable from a connectivity standpoint. It did however allow Windows Media Player users to see a graphic of my scanner LCD with text tags.

I gave all of that up pretty quickly and went with Proscan to broadcast my scanner LCD screen to users with the free Proscan client "and" also send the text tags to RR for users with WinAmp and/or Real Player. Proscan's remote control feature is a must for me also. Another great option for sending text tags to RR is ScannerCast, very easy to configure and lightweight from a CPU standpoint. But, like Proscan, the text tags can only be seen in WinAmp and/or Real Player on the listener end.

Thanks for all your help guys. If you go to this address, you should see what I mean.: http://hose1.com/bc895xlt.htm You are both right. I want the listeners to be able to see the text tags when the scanner lands on a freq. But also embed the windows media player into my site. I'm waiting on a cable for my BCD395T so for right now I'm using the escanner program for my BC895XLT. I'm still in the testing stages. I'm sorry Scott for the confusion. I didn't realize you could stream with the desktop capture feature in WME. I thought that only recorded to a file for later broadcast. The only problem I seem to be having now is when I bring up any window on my desktop, WME will capture it and interfere with the scanner interface. So if you guys go to the address above, you might see my desktop or a window on my desktop depending on what I am doing at the time. Still working on that one. I will be using proscan when I get my cable. I've looked it over and it looks pretty cool with all it's features. I might have to hit you guys up for some help on that if you guys don't mind but I'll try and wriggle my way through it first. Again. Thank You so very much for your help guys. I really sure do appreciate it. God Bless.
Eddie

PS the text in the embeded media player doesn't match the audio. They are coming off of 2 different scanners for now.

Hey Guys. I think I've got it now. BCD396T Thank You for all your help! This feed may or may not be up until I work all the bugs and setup the scanner and laptop. I just bought a new computer. Vista 64 bit edition.
I can't seem to use the encoder Gorden had provided me when I had my old machine (32 bit). Anybody have the same problem ? Thanks again
