• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok - so besides my Mac the “newest” windows PC I have is a Thinkpad T61 Core 2 Duo with 160GB / 2 gigs of RAM computer I use to program all my “vintage” radios ( xts5000,3000, MTS etc. ).

Trying to get my toes wet with trying to program an APX6000 ( all conventional only ) will my computer handle APX CPS ?

I don't know about Vista but APX CPS 29 was the last version that would run on Win 7, you can try to run it and see what happens but anything else over 29 will require WIn 10+. Last time I ran 29 a while back was on a low end computer, win 7 4 gigs ram dual core, didn't have any problems

Thank you for this !

I also have a *somewhat* newer Thinkpad X301 that’s 64BIT, has Windows 7 Professional ( but only has 2GB with a 64GB SSD )

Not going to work with anything less than 8GB of RAM, really 16 or more is needed. Any codeplug with more than a few personalities will slow to a stop without RAM. This software is as hungry for RAM as Adobe Premiere Pro.

Found a Thinkpad E550 with 16 gigs of RAM and a 256GB SSD running Windows 10 Pro. Only issue I can see is it only has a dual core core i5 not a quad core. Would this still work with the latest CPS ?

Ended up getting a Thinkpad T540P with the following specs -

Lenovo ThinkPad T540P Laptop
Backlit keyboard
i7-4800MQ Quad Core - 2.7Ghz
15.6 inch screen
16 GB memory
256 SSD Drive
USB, VGA, Memory card reader, mini display port 1920x1080 resolution
NVIDIA Geforce GT 730M
DVD/CD Rom Matshita dvd-ram UJ8E2

So this will hopefully work. It’ll just be for APX radio programming that’s it. I have a 14” Mac Pro M2 for my EDC laptop.
