"When the City of Apopka P25 system goes online, the City of Winter Park will leave the Orange County Smartzone system and move to the new Apopka system."

HUH?

Curious as to the source of this. There was a BIG deal going on with Winter Park leaving the 1F36 Orange County system and going to the City of Orlando 25A 7.X system not more than 6-8 months ago.
Apopka's system isn't even close to the service area that the City of Winter Park would require for portable coverage...

Anyone have accurate info on this?

Yup, it's true. Coverage testing has been done and results have been very promising. Apparently, Apopka's tower being on sort of a bluff above Lake Apopka has a pretty decent footprint into Winter Park. Reasons as to why this is the direction they decided to go is anybody's guess.

Maitland is joining this also. They are dispatched by Apopka so it makes a little more sense, but........
