Select a piece of coax cable about 1.2 metres long where you can easily slide the inner out of the braid, put the correct plug on one end. Find the middle and carefully cut through the outer insulation and the braid underneath and pull them off leaving the centre conductor and the insulation intact. Get a short piece, say 20mm, of heatshrink put half the length over the end of the centre, shrink it then fold the end over. Then heatshrink over the whole of the centre trapping the folded over end and and down over the outer for 25mm. Done - zip tie the new antenna to the shoulder strap of your portable.

So what's the answer - did it work? or haven't tried it? It's a sleeved dipole and should work pretty well.
