Hi, I have been having an issue since last nite where my scanner is just in constant scan mode and doesnt seem to stop on any of my programmed frequency's (fire, police, ems). I know there has to be some activity going on but it just is in endless scan mode. I've turned the unit off and back on, replaced the batteries (dont have a wall adapter to charge) and its still doing it. Is there something wrong with the scanner or have I pushed a wrong button (again). I have not touched any of the quick keys...each of them are flashing as its scanning, but my radio wont stop scanning.

Check squelch. Maybe turned all the way down.

maybe it is that quiet

do you know someone local with a scanner, or is there an online one to listen to?
one christmas morning after about 4 hours of nothing my radio came to life with the line "is this thing working?"

I'm a new user and don't know how to check what you're suggesting. I had the scanner off for awhile but have it back on and it still just says "scan ID" and goes through all the talk groups but doesn't stop. This has been going on for almost 24hrs so I knows it's not due to inactivity.

He was suggesting that you scan for a weather channel. Here is how:
To listen to the weather channel, press Hold to hold on any channel.
Press and hold Func then 2/(WX).
At 'WX Operation-Weather Scan' press E/Yes.
Scroll to select a different weather channel.
Press Scan to exit.

So you're listening to 3C08 and you've locked out the control channel(s)?

I don't think it will say ID SCAN unless it has locked onto a control channel. My guess is that the talkgroups are locked out or on a Quick Key that is disabled.

If you have your programming on the PC, it may be best to try reloading it.

Get the radio into ID Search Mode. Hit Function, then scan. If you have accidentally locked out the talkgroups, or erased them somehow it won't stop on anything. ID search will decode any traffic it finds..Though the digital talkgroups will just generate noise.

Thank you everyone for your help. I completely screwed up the scanner by somehow deleting Toronto police altogether and locking out EMS and Fire. I shouldn't touch the buttons if I don't know what I'm doing...right???? Right! Lol. A friend of mine who works in radio communications reprogrammed the scanner for me. He in fact is the one who got me interested in scanners and gave me and programmed the one I have. I'm still new at this and still have a lot to learn. From now on before I post in the forum I will make sure it's an actual technical problem and not a user problem. Again thanks for all your help.
