Hi! I'm very new to the digital programming world and am trying to program a handheld Whistler WS1040 for my son. I updated the firmware and I think I updated the cable. I finally got everything to program and begin the upload but every time I try, it gets stuck at 99%. Any thoughts? What am I doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU

No I haven’t yet. I originally tried on a Win 10 system. Tried today on a windows 7 system and am getting the same result. Have you had any luck?

The working memory of your radio has 1852 objects. I don't know what programming software you are using or what you are trying to hear, but there is a limit to the number of objects you can have in the working memory. The virtual folders are 21 separate 1852 objects you can program for different scanning environments. If you are using Win00 programming software and notice 1 or 2 objects left, you might be overloading the program.

Harvey13 - I think I have the download issue solved. I used PSREdit500. Under "Configuration" there is a checkbox with a message regarding Checksums. Check that box. Make sure your COM settings match and go to whistlergroup.com. Update the firmware and then go try to download. If you are not using PSREdit500, look around the configuration settings for a checksum statement and select it, if you have one. I did that and it worked perfectly.

bigcountry65 - that is so frustrating. I totally understand. The only thing I can suggest is to reset the scanner to factory settings, update firmware, check things like the COM settings, the checksum and then try. It took days and me trying this countless times before i narrowed down everything. If I think of anything else that might help, I'll drop you note. Good luck.

After a lot of hair pulling I got it figured out. With the new Windows OS, serial comm ports of old are gone in lieu of virtual ports. My computer installed the drivers as Comm port 5. I reset the scanner to factory , matched the virtual port and now it’s talking and taking data. Appreciate all the help.

The newer cables do not handle the speed well during upload and will drop data. In PSREdit500, under the Configuration menu select the "Serial Port Settings" option. On the screen that appears near the bottom, there's an option to add extra time between packets while uploading to the radio. Check that box and click the OK button. It will take just a little longer to upload, but it will go to 100%.

WIN500 and ARC500 may have a similar option if you're having difficulty with those.

Thanks Mike,

That was also what I found that helped. Im using PSREdit500, as I could never selct the com port in Win500. Maybe just overlooked from frustration, but its working well now,

Try resetting the scanner to factory settings. As soon as you turn the scanner on, immediately hit zero followed by one on the keypad to initiate this and then follow the prompts to clear all memory.

Another note about the new cables. They are not FTDI cables, which means the direct access mode will not work in PSREdit products. A standard COM port needs to be selected to communicate with the scanner with these cables.
