this weather radio is garbage. Do yourself a favor and do not buy!!! save your 100 bucks and get the WR-100 instead.

CONS: the radios alert indicator lights won't stop flashing even when there are no alerts in your area.
the antenna looks like a 4 year old put it together and reception is mediocre at best, i had to put on a spare antenna that i had lying around to get decent reception. there was an laert isuused in my area for a flood watch and this piece of junk didn't even go off. my WR-100 did go off however. i double checked the alert settings to see if i had the flood watch alert off, but i didn't. and my WR-100 did go off for the flood watch. with this separate antenna that i put on i got great reception on the channel that i usually listen to. but the lights were still flashing but no alert was displaying. i don't know about you but i would like to know when hazardous weather is coming and would like to live once it passes.

Like the old weather radio cubes. I have always wanted one to try to modify to VHF high to listen to the local police

I got in on Dailysteals deal and bought one for $19.99 shipped, so far it has been a good unit, programmed in my local skywarn frequencies and it picks them up well, it has received all the alerts that have been issued in my area, verified by my trusty ReeCom 1630, so far it has been well worth the 20 bucks it cost me.

I bought 2 of them from Dailysteals. They performs quite well at my location. The lights stop flashing when you first manually stop it on a Wx. freq that is strong. Then you can proceed to switch to the skywarn or just off to the clock mode and the lights will mot flash. Went off 3 or 4 times in the last week since I got it. Got the test last Wed. at 11 am. and two Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and a Silver Alert! I set it to give me the alert for all of the possible alerts on the list.
Sensitivity is very close to that of my scanners.
The big bonus I found out after taking it out of the box is that it actually runs on 6AA rechargeable batteries besides the included AC adapter. And it even charges the batteries internally! Incidentally, I opened one up to see if any mods can be done to open up the band. Looks like it is programmed right into the microprocessor so I don't think it is possible.

yes that is why it is "Daily" Steals. Only for the day. Sorry. But keep your eye on the web site. I check it in the morning every day. It might come back on again if they get another bunch of them. It is discontinued from Radio Shack so they get them somewhere.

12-519 Weather Radio

Not sure what happened for KB1UAM. I purchased three and they are by far the best weather radios I have ever owned. RX is equal to my scanner. Features cannot be beat. One at my radio desk, one on my bedside stand and one on my desk at my after school program. The lights flash when there is no signal. It is vital that the user fully read the instructions. On EBay for $24.99. Will have a review of this unit in my SAME story in the upcoming July RARA Rag. Document Archives of RaRa - The Rochester Amateur Radio Association

That's good that they are available on Ebay for those that missed the Daily Steals deal. Only 5 bucks more on ebay. That's still worth it even at $25
