To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am interested in adding AES 256 encryption to my radio.
Listed under features I have:
ENC LITE
DES SINGLE KEY
MULTIGROUP
among other features too.
Under Radio info:
AES: None
DES:R05A01

I don't see it listed anywhere but I have ARC4(ADP) encryption too.

What is needed to get AES encryption?
Is there a feature string that would enable this like there is for an XG 100?
I know there are the 2 ess files, 1 for DES and 1 for AES.

thanks.

Encryption Lite is ADP/ARC4. Harris is just unique with how they phrase it

You need to request AES single or multi key from a Harris dealer, additionally you will need the AES Module file

Ok and the AES single key or multi key is a file also? I will request the multi key as I would like to keep DES encryption.
I have the AES module file that I programmed into my XG 100 P Unity, will that work in my XL 200?

See how it says
AES: None
DES:R05A01

That means the AES module is not activated. Loading the file into the radio will activate the module. Without it, the encryption won't work. What version do you have for the Unity?

Ok so I just load that AES module in and will activate AES? I don't need a multi key file?
I had to get an updated feature string for the Unity to enable AES and then load the AES module file.

AES multikey is a feature, not a file. If your feature set doesnt reflect AES MULTI KEY then you dont have it.
The .ess files are literally just firmware modules that create the function for the radio to do AES or DES.

You said you wanted to keep DES so you'll need multi key.

AES can be loaded via Key Manager or KVL

Harris TAC tells me that I would need multi key if I want to load more than 1 set of keys for DES and more than 1 set of keys for AES.
I can just add single key AES feature they said. They also said I need Key Manager TQS3416.
Is the single key AES feature separate from the AES keys?
I have a KVL that I can load the AES keys I want to load.

So to add single key AES, I need Key Manager to do that?
That is not done in RPM2 like I added the HALM module for my Unity in RPM?
I understand that I will need to load the AES key with the KVL.

No, Harris sends you a feature file, the feature file is loaded into the radio via RPM2

Key manager is used to load keys
