To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello fellow Harris users,

The county that I work for just installed XL200M radios in the Mobile Command Vehicles and we are looking for dispatch headset options, for these radios, during events where multiple dispatchers will be working at one time. Any ideas, and GO.......

I never tried interfacing a headset to an XL-200M, though. Will be interesting to see the recommendations.

Interfacing is the easy part:
XZ-CA6M "Cable, Accessory, XL Desktop will give you analog mic, foot switch, two speaker outputs and a USB C connection for this. Should be pretty easy to do the hook up.

Yeah, this idea is new to me. I guess I will try different options and it will just be a trial by error.

If you want tried and true super heavy duty expensive stuff, David Clark is the way to go. I don't have the part numbers available right now but my company's using these on high noise outdoor equipment applications using Harris XL 200M. Similar use could be fire departments for the personnel in the truck. The headset plugs into a external interface box that gives you a volume control and a push to talk button. There is a pigtail that goes to the rear of the radio that wires into the interface box. We have push to talk foot pedal and also a switch to enable or disable a large PA horn when the operator steps away.

I could dig up headset, interface box part number, the Harris part number for the pigtail ( @mmckenna probably listed the correct one..) and possibly a white paper to show the wiring if you're interested.

I will tell you, in a mobile command dispatch situation this may be a bit overkill, there are different headsets available from light duty single muff to crazy heavy duty dual muff back of the head stuff. They do have a line now of Bluetooth stuff available but I have no use for that in my fleet of mobiles as we use Pacific Wireless X10DR "pods"

MSS-Dave, thank you for the feedback. We have the David Clarks up front for the driver/passenger, we are looking for a single muff for the dispatcher to use. The hard part is trying to find one that will hookup to the mobile radio. I have been told about the bluetooth option. I just wanted to get a few options to try, if there was any other options.

Wired version. P/N 40380G-05 Headset Station/PTT interface box. H3492 single side headset. Add a foot switch if needed. Contact David Clark for interface cable wiring to the XL200M. All of our stuff was custom manufactured for the "radio in a box" concept. I do not know what was used for the donor cable with a DB44 on one end and flying leads on the other but I suspect the XZ-CA6M as listed previous may work. Need 7 connections from radio to the interface including power. Foot switch or a hand type PTT trigger wires to the interface box separately.

The radio itself inherently has Bluetooth but I've never checked to see if audio accessories can utilize that functionality. The portable radios do support that and there's quite a few manufacturers including OTTO that have products.

You might also check Firecom or Sonetics to see if they can support mobile command center interface to Harris radios.

The XL 200M can be interfaced with a Plantronics / Poly wireless PTT headset via a 6 wire jackbox connected to an accessory pigtail off the back of the XL control head.
