• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Have 3 XPR radio's. 2 UHF (XPR-6500 I/S ) and 1 VHF. The UHF units are I/S FM and have I/S batteries thatcame with the units, but sadley they are getting ready to be replaced. Battery code 1 is 210 and the second its 928. The VHF unit has the PMNN4066 standard battery. I also own a Titan battery that is similar to Motorola's PMNN4066, BUT it is 1880 Mah!!! The OEM Motorola batteries do not come in that high of Mah's except for the 4077C which is 2200Mah.

I would like to open a discussion on the best battery for my radios. I prefer Li-on batteries with impress condition. However; I noticed that the OEM Motorola batteries don't give me much of a choice when it comes to power options. They are either 1500Mah, 1400Mah and of course the larger/widest battery at 2200Mah.

If my UHF units have the green dot on the actual radio, would it make sense to purchase the I/S 57 green dot FM battery to go with those two UHF radio's? Comments welcome. Thanks folks.

The batteries you have are 4 years old (112) and 6 years old (928) so they are most likely worn out.

I would stick with OEM IMPRES batteries. You get what you pay for. IMPRES batteries if used with an IMPRES charger give you an 18 month warranty IIRC.

As far as the I/S rating, if your use environment specifies that intrinsically safe radios be used, then yes, you should have I/S rated batteries installed to maintain the rating.

I agree with MTS2000des.
The right OEM battery is going to last at least twice as long as some after-market battery.
Look how long the one's you got now lasted. You'll never get anywhere near that out of an off brand battery.

Thanks guys for your replies. I'm not using the radio in a I.S. capacity, so I think I agree that a green dot is unnecessary and a waste of money. PMNN-4077A is the highest capacity OEM battery with 2200 mAH of power. However; I'm wondering if PMNN4066A OEM @1500 mAH power is slimmer and perhaps lighter. Does anyone have any comparison pictures of both batteries side by side or better yet attached to an XPR-6550? Do you think the 2200mAH PMNN-4077C is going to be too heavy to carry all day long? Any ideas if the 1500 will get me through a 12 hr shift?
