Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi there,

From MotoTrbo CPS 14.0, I'm trying to adjust the backlight timer setting on my XPR 6550, so the backlight stays on all the time when activated (right now the backlight works, it just goes away after a few seconds). The CPS help menu states there is a Backlight Timer setting in the Menu. It says "This checkbox allows you to enable or disable the Backlight Timer menu. When you enable this checkbox, you can set the timer for the Timeout Timer feature in the radio via the menu."

However, I can't find this setting in the actual CPS. It's almost like my version of the CPS doesn't have the backlight timer setting activated. Can someone clarify where this setting is found, and if it's available in CPS 14.0?

The Backlight Timer feature appears under General Settings in the tree. The feature is not supported on the XPR 6550, that's why you're not seeing it.

Open a sample codeplug for a 7550 and you'll see it there.

So the backlight timer and timeout timer are 2 separate things but neither will let you have the backlight on no matter what. I guess it must be some power saving feature of the XPR radio's but there is no way to keep the backlight on all the time that i'm aware of.

Damn, that sucks. My XTS 5000 has this feature, I can't believe they didn't carry-over that feature to the XPR series.

Huh I didn't know the 5k's had that feature since mine is only a M1 but yes it is silly and whenever I press a key to see the MDC ID it clears the ID and turns on the display which makes me turn the volume knob just to see the ID.
