If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm programming an xpr6550. I can enter channels into the scan list in the cps. I also set a button on the radio to turn the scan feature on and off. When I write the radio, the scan feature is not active.

Any thoughts on why it won't scan?

In the frequency section of each channel, you have to assign the channels into a scan list. This would be very close to where you set the color code.

I did that and the scan feature still won't activate.

And you then made the list of channels you want to scan at the bottom of the tree on the left side of your computer screen?

If you are talking about the SCAN LIST section of that tree on the left hand side, yes. I made a scan list then entered into the scan list selection on the right hand window.

Not sure about the 6550, but on the 7550 I also have to select the scan list I want to use, using the menu, even if I set it in the CPS. Any time I write to the radio from the CPS the active scan list gets removed and it defaults to None, which in turn does nothing when I press the scan button. As soon as I set the active list, it works like a charm.

Have you assigned a button to turn scanning on? Do you have the radio set to auto scan? WhAt is your firmware? Are you willing to send me your codeplug to take a look at it? TT
