To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good evening all!

Earlier today I got my DMR radio ID number so I could communicate on an open local repeater with my 7550e.

I tried transmitting on the parrot talkgroup, (TS 1 TG 9998) and received no response back to my radio.

I checked to see if my frequencies and offset were still correct in my codeplug, and they were, yet I still couldn't hear my transmission repeated back to me.

I investigated a little more and took a look at the repeater's netwatch and noticed three things:

1. The callsign and name displayed for my radio ID was completely different from my name and callsign.
2. My talkgroup was displayed as "Unknown Ipsc group 9998".
3. The repeater is in fact picking up my transmission, but I am not able to hear it repeated back to me.

In all likelihood this is a programming issue, user error, or a lack of experience, but I have pretty much tried everything on my end to troubleshoot this.

I use CPS 16 Build 828 as my programming software.

My radio's firmware is 2.09.01.0001

Does anyone have any tips, suggestions, or knowledge on what I could have overlooked? I would like to test my radio before I start working.

I have also included a screenshot of the netwatch error below.

Regards, KR4HWU. :)

Try time slot 2.

All my Parrott for all repeaters is on ts 2.
I tried both time slots one and two and just attempted two again and received the same error. The listed time slot for the repeater is time slot one, but it could also be outdated.

Try time slot 2.

All my Parrott for all repeaters is on ts 2.
Per the matrix, parrot is on 1. Two is for members.

Also, to OP: have you tried a regular QSO on a voice TG? And, try making it not ipsc.
Got it, will the ID update with my callsign automatically?
It pulls from a database usually entered by admin of repeater. That callsign doesnt even have an ID. Someone got entries messed up. I have not pulled a database from there in years, so no way for me to see if you show up.

Try a different TG and a voice chat on say, NY 3136

All that sent on dmr is your ID number

If people have the database loaded Into their radio your call sign will show up.

If people are like me and only load dmr id's of know people they talk with on regular basis and your ID isn't stored in receiving radio all that will show on the other radio is your. 7 ID number.

Some radios use a talker alias which shows names with being out being programed in radios. This feature only works on some repeaters and should be turned off with causing more issues than it solves.

With dmr your 7 digit dmr ID isn't a legal ham ID and you still must voice your call sign at regular intervals

I have not, I wanted to test my radio before transmitting on the open air.

Where can you find the IPSC settings in CPS? Is it in the channel folder?

(Quick note, when I reviewed the matrix that you provided I realized that I completely forgot to include the repeater’s callsign in my original post. The call sign for the repeater is W2GGI, it’s on the NY-DMR network, but the actual repeater is located in Broward. )

I have to go for now, but I’ll check back in tomorrow!

Oh ok, I was wondering why the call sign was different, they likely haven’t updated their ID database recently.

I’m not sure if the repeater has talker aliases enabled, but I have heard it can cause these issues.
