If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone, I need your help!

I have an XPR 8400 VHF repeater that was programmed with a password, I need to clone it with a blank codeplug.
Does anyone have a sample or blank codeplug for an XPR 8400 model # M27JQR9JA7BN.

You can reach me in private at ve2vxt@gmail.com

Thank you

In the CPS folder you'll find a bunch of blank codeplugs.

Install firmware on your programming computer (equal to or newer than what is currently installed) and perform a Device Recovery. That should give you a default codeplug without a password.

OP asked for a blank codeplug, and those available on the CPS samples folder. Doing a recovery requires having the firmware installed, or available to install, plus it has other implications.

If OP can find a codeplug with not only matching model number but also feature set and codeplug version (i.e. written with matching CPS and perhaps matching Tanapa as well) then they can try to clone that in but I never could get it work when trying to blank out a password protected TRBO radio. Device Recovery always worked though provided there wasn't anything else wrong.

You should be able to use Tuner to save the separate tuning configuration ahead of time (always a good idea anyway) but I don't recall having any issues with recovery. Checking alignment on a service monitor should be done regardless since it appears this repeater is new to the OP.

I understand, but not everyone has tuner either. There is always a risk involved when doing a recovery. The default codeplugs on the cps16 samples folder have always worked for me.

Neither my CPS16 or CPS2.0 have a sample for XPR8400. The R7 sample did pop up in the current version of 2.0 though.

Thanks tweiss3, you are right, no XPR8400 on the samples folder... so, I take it back.

I guess the recovery might be the only option then, hopefully the repeater didn't have too many entitlements EIDs enabled...

It's possible that EIDs can be wiped out but not always. I don't recall losing any before but there is a way to recover licenses. However I'm not sure how well that'd work with a second-hand repeater. See Wayne Holmes' excellent blog: This simple "trick" can solve an unusual problem.

Still, even by default XPR8400s are pretty feature filled but yeah, don't want to lose any purchased features.

Recovery always wiped EIDs for me, had to recover them all...

If no XPR8400 default codeplug sample is available, then like you said, recover is probably the only way to do this.
