If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is it possible to program an XTL 1500 with a "Day" channel and a "Night" channel where day squelch is open to hear traffic, and night is muted until an alert is received then radio/dispatcher traffic is heard?

Radio system is UHF conventional P25. We are using astro id for alerting.

Thank You

Eric

Yes, just program two separate channels appropriately.

We have programmed a day channel that alerts correctly and allows audio to pass. The night channel we programmed is muted and alerts, but radio traffic audio does not pass through after alert. The radio stays muted. The only thing audible is the alert tone. Any thoughts on settings?

It can be done, and you are close. I suggest you call your radio shop and pay them to do it. This is the type of service they provide and you don't have to guess at it.

What he said. We are currently retrofitting our fire stations with a backup alert using Call Alert paging. The local shop is using a combo of APX/XTL consollettes and relay controllers, and adding day/night switches that will route/cut audio to the station house PAs. It is not difficult but requires more than just programming radios.

I already inquired with the local shops. They advised they are not sure it can be done on ASTRO.

Thank you for input. Our stations are set up with relay controllers to switch between day and night. My inquiry is whether I can do it with the radio by selecting a day or night channel and eliminate the relay controllers. In Quick Call it is an And/Or setting. In Astro that option is not available. Was wondering if there was a different setting. This station only needs audio, it does not need lights , gas shutoff, etc.
