• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So I know I hook the red wire to the batter but where can I hook the yellow ignition wire? I have a 2007 ram truck and I'm not sure were to hook it in to. I also hooked up a 3/4 wave antenna but it close to my am fm antenna I'm not get in feed back so is it ok if it close to it? Last question has any one ever heard of a vhf radio messing with the vehicle computer to the point u have to get it flashed and re programmed?

The best way to find an ignition source is to probe your fuse panel with a voltmeter until you reliably find a switched fuse. You can then use a fuse tap and make sure your XTL is programmed for ignition sense. Sorry, I've installed in many different vehicles but not a Ram yet. It shouldn't be all that difficult though.

As for the antenna, it's not recommended to have it close to the AM/FM. I'd try to move it if possible.

I have heard of radios wreaking havoc on the computer. The first step would be to move your antenna away, as far as possible. After that, you could try shielding the computer. Really, the best place for any two-way antenna is squarely in the middle of the roof.

Ok thanks I'll move the antenna to the roof I think I know where I can get a magnetic mount.

Can the ignition wire be deactivated via programing in the radio? If so then do u just us the power button on the remote head to turn the radio on and off.

Yes, the software is fairly flxible when it comes to ignition sense programming. You can turn it off if you don't want it. Just remember to turn the radio off so as to not kill your battery!

Red wire to constant +12V(+13.8V) battery.

Yellow wire to an ignition controlled +12V source via a fuse tap from the fuse block.

Black to negative ground.

From the Motorola CPS programming software go to "radio wide" and the advanced tab
and select "ignition switch" to "Soft Power Off" and in this way the radio will power up
when the car is started and you can also using the power button on the control head
to power up and off the radio at will.

Ditto on Kg's response get that antenna off the fender and on the roof, especially with VHF.

And be sure to install in-line fuse holders, with fuses at 1 or 2A max, in both of these lines.
