Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

XTL1500 FLASHED TO XTL5000 FOR 900MHZ

Good afternoon,

If a XTL1500 in 900 MHZ is flashed to a XTL5000 in 900MHZ will an 03 control head work on it given the TIB was converted for it?

Have one that was flashed to XTL5000 with an 03 control head. The radio receives fine, but when trying to transmit the red light comes on but no TX output going out.

Wondering if it's the setup or something internally on the brick?

Thanks

I've upgraded plenty of 2500s into 5000s with an o3 head. No problem. I've never done it with a 1500 but no reason it shouldn't work.

I've never even messed with XTLs so I'm clueless. Am I gathering that the XTL hardware doesn't care what you call it, a 1500 can be reflashed as a 5000 with new firmware? Because I've got a stack of 800 MHz XTL1500s that I haven't even touched yet since I got them. I might want to play with one....if I know what can be done to them.

No power output or no audio? That configuration should work fine but perhaps whoever flashed it did it wrong and erased the tuning.

It requires tools which aren't discussed here. The XTL1500 brick is the same as an XTL2500 and XTL5000- all are identical internally. The only difference are control heads and software.

I have done at least a dozen 1500 to 5000 "Upgrades" and all worked great
Have you ever done a 1500 > 5000 conversion keeping the 1500's original MX head? I'm trying to determine if a 5000 would recognize and operate properly with an MX head attached to the deck.

Further research suggests that the MX head is compatible only with the 1500. Bummer.

But you can "re-assign" a M5 head on a 2500 as an O5 (and vise-versa) by cutting the button membrane and re-affixing the carbon jumper that defines whether the CH is a M5 or O5 head.

Cool, but what does any of that have to do with an MX head on a 5000?
