Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

According to the manual, there is a version that covers from 470 up into the 600 MHz range. In the US we refer to that range as "T-Band". If you were to find the correct model, the software would open up the range for you to program it.

It just depends on which band split you get. I'm not too familiar with the XTL5000 splits, but we use them at work, and the highest channel we use is 472.xxx mhz.

I have to wonder why anyone would buy a 380-470MHz XTL5000 and then use it on UHF CB. It is like using an F18 for crop dusting...

The bottom line is that no, they will not work reliably on 477MHz, not without retuning anyway. I have tried UHF CB & it died at about channel 6, with "Fail 01" above that. This is a VCO out of lock... While the MCS2000s did stretch to 477MHz the XTL5K is not that kind.

Sorry to break the bad news to you.

Cheers,

Not really, more like a mirror image of the 40 channels on 27MHz but instead between 476-477MHz with 8 repeater channels & the balance simplex. 5W FM output is permitted. This has been available in Australia since about 1980. No licences are required (same as 27MHz).
