• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have an XTS 2500 and i have it programed the way i want. I have a few questions and i need help with it.

My radio guy at work cant figure out these issues.

(1) I have a digital frequency programmed into my radio, when i put it to that channel my radio beeps 3 times and the screen says "Key Failure" I do not know what the issue is. I have a few digital channels along with all analog frequencies and this channel is the only one that does it.

(2) The same digital channel, when i scroll to this channel i can not scan anyone at all. It will not allow the "Z" to come up on the screen but if i change the channel i can scan anything thats in the scan list including that digital frequency.

(3) When i got the radio i was able to make my own scan list on the fly by pressing the purple scan button and putting it in to scan mode and then picking what i wanted to scan and not. Now if i put it into program mode when i try to lock or unlock channels it just beeps and will not allow me to change the scan list.

The digital frequency i am talking about is Dartmouth Ma police dept.

Please someone help me or point me in some sort of direction

That channel is probably assigned to a conventional personality that has encryption slaved to on and no scan list defined.

Not trying to be rude but without a basic knowledge of the CPS software it's impossible to explain in too much more detail. Do you have the software handy?

1) Your radio guy has programmed the Dartmouth PD channel for strapped encrypted, but no key has been programmed (if using ADP) or loaded (if using hardware encryption). Have uncheck the "Secure Capable" parameter and strap this channel for clear.

2) Somewhere in the programming process, your radio guy has failed to enable scan and select a scan list for the channels that will not allow turning scan on. Point this out to him and he'll see the issue.

3) The scan list associated with the channel you've selected when you try to go into scan program mode is not set for "User Select" on the non-priority members, or the scan list is full when you try to add a channel.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but if these issues are beyond your "radio guy," methinks you need a new radio guy.
