• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a Motorola XTS 2500 Model 2 AN version operating on a P25 700/800 system. Radio powers up and passes self test then shows the battery to be 10-7 and shuts down. No error codes displayed. I have tried different batteries and have the same results. Anyone have any ideas?

XTS2500 shutting down

No......LOL...it is DEFINATELY a legit radio on the system. It seems to be a problem with the radio itself. I think my partner has been keeping it in a location that is putting pressure on the navigation button in the center of the front of the radio.

Inhibited radios don't show anything on the display except DEADLOCKED.

Being this is an AN version, it is no longer supported by Motorola. You can try re-seating the front cover flexes into the ZIF connectors CAREFULLY.

Deadlock shows up when you enter in the wrong password 3 times in a row.
An inhibited radio shows nothing on the display.

Whatever the problem is it is intermittent. It functioned perfectly for 4 hours this afternoon. The first indicator it is about to freak out is the battery indicator goes to 0 and begins to flash. Then the Zone up/down buttons stop working and then it shuts off.

Check the flex connector from the front case to the board on the radio. I had an XTS2500 AN that the display would go whacky after a while, it would drop characters, show upside down or just disappear. Popped open the radio and reseated the flex cable and so far so good. It never happened right away, only after a couple of hours operation.

Contact your system manager / radio shop? If its a legit radio on the system and you're having problems with it, go talk to them?

Contacting the system manager results in "the AN version is no longer supported and as you know the entire XTS/ XTL series will be discontinued in a little over a month.......can we interest you in a very nice APX radio." The radio tech I use won't be back until tomorrow and I plan to take it to him. I was hoping that someone had a similar issue that I might be able to get resolution prior to that. As to the comments concerning it being a legit radio - it is my understanding when the radio ID's to the handshake server and it is not a valid ID. It is immediately "put to sleep"; however, I will be the first to admit my knowledge concerning the operational security validation process is limited. Thanks for the suggestions.

So your radio isn't inhibited if you don't have a system manger. A system manager is not a sales person in most cases. Usually, in bigger systems, there's "a guy" to bring your radios to.

Sounds like your XTS just has a hardware problem.

The problem occurred over the weekend. I did contact the system manager this morning. I was told they only determined the radio to be a compatible type with intact tags and was not stolen, hacked, etc. and issued the ID numbers for the shop to have the radio programmed. I was referred to the designated service center who was currently very busy which did result in me talking to a sales rep. The tech at the service center who usually services our radios was off today. I guess I did leave a few of the steps off that I had already done which understandingly could lead to misperception of the situation. With any luck it will be a hardware problem and all will be well.

Should anyone have a similar problem the answer is................ the radio is fried. Now to decide whether to send it to the Depot or just buy a replacement. Glad it's not my decision....LOL!!!!! Thanks to everyone for your input.
