• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Does Motorola make a convert-a-com that works right with the XTS5000 and the impress batteries?

Most regular chargers will charge Impress Batteries but from what I have read by not using an Impress Charger will shorten the life of the battery. As far as the convert-a-com they will wrk fne with an 800 mHz radio.

but from what i understand you lose the advantage of the impres battery if you don't charge it in an impres charger and then the chip doesn't work any more

Your master site
On the first charge an IMPRES battery needs to be charged/initialized in an IMPRES charger. If it isn't then it hoses it up. You can then, after that first charging, use it in regular chargers once and a while without any serious harm. So it will work in the XTVA, but you lose the IMPRES feature.

edit as I waited too long to post after loading the page, didn't see wayne's post....

One added thing, you loose the extra 6 months warranty you get when you use an Impres battery only in an Impres charger.

They do make an Impres mobile charger, but it does not do the full conditioning as the base chargers. It's not in the mobile adapter however.

I second that post. The convert-a-com is a great asset to my agency. We have many in service now.

It doesn't exactly hose up the battery if you don't initalize in an impres charger. You just won't ever see the battery icon (only applies to the Astro25 portables), and you loose the extra 6mo warranty.

Hey Sweetie, that's a possible definition of "hosed up" for me.

From www.merriam-webster.com

hosed up
One entry found for hosed up
Pronunciation: 'hous-"up
Function: verb

#1 To put your hose on the top shelf

#2 To charge your Impres battery in a non-Impres charger. Usually silly when you think of how much we spend for Impres batteries and chargers, you'd think we would not be so dumb in the first place.

#3 To re-flash a Q52 XTS5000 into a HT220 with facinator :D
