• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I know you have to use the CPS software to program an XTS portable, but do you need to put the XTS portable in a programming mode, or do you just need to hook it up to the computer and the cps software will automatically read it?

Just read the radio and the CPS does the rest. Then do the programing changes and write the codeplug back to the radio. REMEMBER to save an archive of the codeplug when you are done just to play it safe in case its needed to restore the radio.

All you do is hook it up to the cable and click "read device" in the CPS. No special programming mode.

Ok, I bought a cable that said it was ribless and it didn't need the rib box. Will that cable work or do I need one that uses a RIb box?

And there is two different version of the CPS software, one is CPS and the other CPS_06_04, which one is the right software?

Maybe you should call Motorola and let them know that they forgot to ship disk 2 when you purchased the software. They have a very helpful customer service department.

Motorola is the only place to get it. I'm sure they will be happy to send out the second disk if they forgot to send it in the first place

Further, if the radio was last programmed with the latest version of software from Motorola you must have that version to program the radio. Example, you cannot write to the radio with say version 11.0 when it was programmed last with version 12.0. It will not be backward compatible

What kind of XTS is it? There are two versions of CPS that program different versions of XTS radios.

Astro CPS - XTS3000 (Astro Saber)

Astro 25 CPS - XTS2500 / XTS5000 (among others)
