• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I bought a XTS2500 off of the auction site a while back, and the display’s contrast is quite dark and about unusable. I thought this was something I could fix, and maybe still can. I understand there’s no setting in the cps or tuner, and a search for the problem generally turns up the dim backlight issue and not contrast problem. What would cause this, bad lcd or position in the faceplate?
Thanks

I had to change my reply after rereading the OP’s post a few times. He does not have a dim display like the PCR radios have. He has a contrast problem with the display itself. To the OP. Does your radio have a FCC number, or a cage number?

I know it has a tag, but I haven't compared the tag to cps, and see if it has an FCC number. I'll look
tomorrow. It has been recased, and likely was a military radio, although the backlight is bright. I hadn't heard of a cage number, what's that?

These radios were FPP from the factory, so they can’t be FCC approved. So there’s no FCC # on the tag. I have no idea what a cage # means, but it’s 78205. Where the FCC # would be it shows 5820-01-545-0334. And next to the flash code it shows P/N N2546.

Do you have another keypad/ucm board you can swap in? I would start there.

The display is the same as regular 2500. The keypad board has different resistors to lower the voltage. If you change the keypad board to a regular non military one it will be fine.

It has a FCC ID number on the label, and the serial number in the cps matches it. I don't have either of those to swap in. I may just have to put up with the display.

Cage code is a 5 digit used by the Federal Government to identify vendors. 78208 is Motorola Solutions in Linthicum Heights, MD.
5820-01-545-0334 is the National Stock Number (NSN) and crosses to "Radio Set"
