To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

In reference to the XTS2500, if the radio has the FPP option loaded into the flashcode, does this allow you to edit everything from the keypad? Would it allow you to set up the MDC, Quick Call II decode option, or is it just frequency info?

Frequency, PL/DPL, NAC, Mode (Analog, Astro, Mixed), Channel Name...

Pretty much everything else, like MDC you still need CPS

You can do a temporary edit of the scanlist but once you cycle the power it goes back to the regular scan list. This isn't a function of FPP and is available on Model II's and III's when activated in CPS.

Depending on the version firmware and CPS used there are differences in the number of Zones that can be modified, if that is what your asking.

Thanks for your response, I am clear on everything except the zones. Can I add certian Personalities to a zone. For example, if I wanted to add a frequency to a radio can I select what zone that I want it to appear in?

Yes and No.

IfF the Personality (Channel) you want to edit is in a Zone has been "FPP Protected" from the CPS then Yes, if Not then No.

Lets assume a new XTS2500 with only 1 Personality (Cheannel) is setup in Zone 1 (Name= UHF Simplex rx=446.000 tx=446.000 etc.....)

There is no way to protect a Zone from the radio. It must be done via the CPS.

So lets assume you now have it connected to the CPS. You will see in "Conventional Personalities" only one entry as listed above as well as "Zone 1" (or whatever you call it) with one entry.

Now IF you "FPP Protect" Zone 1, it will automatically add 14 personalities in both "Conventional Personalities" AND "Zone 1". (It will put in valid info in those entries.)

So all 15 Personallites in Zone 1 are now able to be edited!

If you now add a 16th personality it will go to Zone 2 and be the 1st entry in Zone 2. If you add for example 5 personalities, they would be in Zone 2, personalities 15 thru 19.

IF IN THE CPS YOU DID NOT "FPP PROTECT" Zone 2, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EDIT THESE!

If you once again go into the CPS and tell it to "FPP Protect" Zone 2, It would keep the ones you added and add now create 30 "Conventional Personalities" total and fill both Zone 1 & Zone 2. You would be able to edit both Zones info.

Make sense? :)

FAIL 001 is a unlock error. Sounds like an RF deck problem

Try programming it up on 154.600... then something like 158.400..... will it key up there?

If it was a Panter88 radio (they are ALT radios... Accelerated Life Tested radios that were beaten to **** in testing facilities, dropped, extensive UV/TX/RX tests... you name it) and the board could be shot.....

I can test when I get home... I did notice that I am getting a blinking battery - as though my battery is low. I am using a battery from a ht1250. Could this possibly casue the issue?

I just ordered a new battery...

A Pro series battery will work just fine... you'll just have to charge it in an HTN9000 charger, or similar Pro/Waris cup.

So just for clarification, the battery would not cause an issue like this? - Is there any concrete way of checking the Board?

No, it shouldn't be the battery.

Try programming a range of freqs. as was suggested earlier and report back.

Well, most do work just fine. I've gotten a few with very minor problems (keypad not totally lighting up, etc), and some are a little scruffy.

He's got great feedback for a reason, just beware of the radio history.

He has agreed to swipe radios. Claiming that there seemes to be an issue. He is even paying for shipping. This guys has been easier to work with than some motorola dealers... I will be happy to get this resolved.

I've heard more stories where Panter88 gets his radio than I can shake a stick at........

My two 2500i's must have had the A.L.T. testing the day they did UV because mine look brand new and work as new. :)
