To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi everyone!
I tried to program my XTS2500 to be able to send Qick-Call II calls to other radios. In the personality window I set the signalling type to Qick-Call II, in the Qick-call II layout of that personality I checked the "Selective call encode" and "selective call decode" boxes. Call system is set to "System 1" and this system really exists. CALL item is added to the menu selections.
Nevertheless when I turn the radio on and select that channel, I can't find the CALL in the menu of the radio, thus I assume this feature is inactive for that personality.
What can be wrong? When I change the signalling type to MDC and check the same boxes in the MDC layout, everything works as it is supposed to...

And one more questions about the Astro signalling. I have another XTS 1500 radio and when I make it transmit I can read it's ID (86524) on the display of the XTS2500. I try to send a call to my XTS1500 from XTS2500 so I select CALL from the menu and I'm asked to select or dial the ID of the target radio. I dial 86524 and push the PTT. Nothing happens to the XTS1500, it makes no sounds, it just receives as always. So what's the purpose of Astro signalling or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Not sure about your Quik-Call II issue as I haven't used that.

As far as your ASTRO issue, is your subscriber that isn't receiving the private call programmed to receive private calls?

In the CPS you can set the particular personality to be able to receive call alerts, pages, etc. If those features aren't enabled, it won't do anything.

assuming that the menu and personality settings are correct check that the call function is one of the first 3 options otherwise you have to use the < or> on the kepad to scrool to other menu features.

d119, thank you! I have checked the boxes in the ASTRO signalling layout of the subscriber's radio and now it beeps twice when receiving an individual call.
I haven't set the CALL softkey to be among the first 3 selections, but even if I scroll through all the menu choices, I'm not able to find it. It's just like this feature is inactive in a given personality...I say, in ASTRO mode Call feature works OK.
What does "firmware issue" mean? Do i need to Flash-upgrade the radio to correct it?

Eaton90,

You're welcome. Do you have CALL assigned to one of the side buttons? That may be causing it not to show up in menu items, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Make sure you have "Unlimited Call" checked if this is a Model 3 radio.

As I recall, QC features -- both decode and encode -- came quite late to the XTS line. I'd say your radio should be FW 12 at the earliest (12 was quite stable); FW 14 or 15 is current.

Host version is R12.00.13
DSP is R12.00.4
I haven't assigned the CALL feature to any side button, it is controlled by the menu items only
What does "unlimited calling" mean and why is it so important to check this box for the III model radio?

Unlimited calling means that the radio dosnt need to be in the call list. you can enter in any call id and the radio will call the id entered
