• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi Everyone,

I remember reading on here somewhere that it was possible to transmit quik call tones from the XTS 2500. I cannot find that thread for the life of me. If someone could explain how to set it up in cps or could point me to the proper thread that would be a huge help.

Thanks

I believe with the XTS2500. The radio would have to have that QCII in the flashcode, if its not then it has to be added. And they way to do that is having someone with the proper software and hardware upgrade it for you. What is the flashcode of your 2500?

It's not a flash option. QCII is available in firmware versions above R09.00.00

OP, I can post a detailed answer once I get to my programming computer after work, as my step-by-step details are a bit fuzzy now.

Thanks very much. We have been having some issues with the town repeater so it will be awesome to be able to send tones from the field.

1) Define a "conventional personality" for the channel on which you want to send QC tones.

2) Under "Signalling," select QCII and point to a defined QC "system."

3) Under "QC II," enable either (or both) of SC transmit and CA transmit.

4) Define a QC Call List with the alphas and tones of the units you might want to call.

5) As appropriate, define either a "Call" (SelCal) or "Page" (CA) menu function.

Assuming you get it all correct, when selected on the QC channel, the "Call" and/or "Page" menu items will be available. Select the one you want. You'll get a list of members (by alpha). Scroll to the person you want to call or page and press PTT.

On a single member call or page, your radio will send the tones.

As appropriate, be sure to define a "member" for group calls.
